"Things like this are the reasons I love poking around on forums, distros, etc. I wouldn’t know what to do with a good portion of my spare time if I wasn’t doing that. However running across bands like Tractor is one of the main reasons I keep doing so. I recently stumbled across them while looking through releases on the UK based Super-Fi Records. While I initially disappointed that the majority of the bands output was out of print, I came to find out that they had put out a tape of just about everything they’ve recorded, sans an upcoming split 7-inch with the excellent Hey Colossus that I highly anticipate, and picked that up from Tapes of Wrath. The music is every bit as ugly as the cover above would lead you to believe, the only downside is the fidelity becomes a bit of an issue here and there…but these tunes manage to drown you in the sort of filth that you’d hope and expect from a band that proudly displays “Bristol Noise-Rock” in bold black font on the tape jacket. It’s unfortunate though, as it appears I’ve come across this band at an inopportune time since they will be playing their last show on Sept 19th. Correction, they are not splitting... so this is good news for myself and others I hope, they are still playing a show in their hometown of Bristol with fellow noise-rock purveyors Part Chimp & Hey Colossus however. Anyone in the UK that might be able to attend that and wants to be absolutely crushed would probably see it fit to be there that night." - from Built On A Weak Spot

THOU
Peasant

The prolific Louisiana five-piece's second album gets a tape release. Hailing from Baton Rouge, the band combine downtuned aggressive stoner with literary lyrics and a stripped-down hardcore sensibility. Rumbling doom epicness. RIYL: Neurosis, Black Sabbath, Born Against. Split release with The Perpetual Motion Machine.

"In many cases, heavy metal is manifested as either a phase one went through in junior high school or one that some unfortunate souls never grew out of, but if you dig below the surface, you will find that some of the most adventurous music around is being made under that dark mantle. One of the area’s finest practitioners, Thou recently caught the attention of the acclaimed Southern Lord label, and in October played showcases with Sunn 0))) at the Knitting Factory in New York and the Unitarian Church in Philadelphia. Peasant contains Thou’s epic-length “An Age Imprisoned,” which sounds as if a song is thrashing like a dinosaur in a tar pit. “Burning Black Coals and Dark Memories” follows a contemplative path from melancholy to despair. Thou crafts elegant, complex, sometimes difficult music that reaps many rewards if you brave the dark road leading up to it." - from 255
